Im looking into buying a good foundation primer but can't decide what one to go with...I've also wondered about makeup setting sprays but are they really nessesary if you have a primer on? Does anyone wear both?

I wear both. A primer helps but in my opinion the setting spray seals everything in.

Using a mosisturizer as a primer is better and works the same

I love smashbox's photo finish primer! It's great especially since there are so many different types for whatever your looking for! Personally I have naturally red skin, so their green primer is great for canceling out my redness.

I use a setting spray as my primer! Works great for me, I have combination/oily skin although this winter my skin has been on the dry side, so I think that's why the setting spray has been working for my current dry skin. In the summer I use clinque redness solution it's a green base primer and that works lovely! Another primer I love (when my skin isnt giving me problems) is M.A.C prep & prime
