Travel makeup hacks?

At the end of March I'm going to visit some family and I'm already stressing about packing my makeup and skincare, making sure it doesn't break in my suitcase, hoping I don't have the airport police dump out my foundation or night cream, etc.
So I was going to ask for help:
What're some good affordable makeup bags?
Good ways to store brushes?
Ways to ensure nothing leaks?
Just the whole general travelling hacks (this is the first trip I've gone on since I've gotten into makeup, please send me "hacks" and things!!)
Thank you! c:

I highly suggest packing makeup in your carry on rather than your checked bag, things are more likely to break in a checked bag.

If you're taking your makeup in your carry on then all liquid and gel products must be 3.1 fluid ounces or smaller and they must all fit in one clear quart sized zip top bag. As long as they're to size then nothing will be thrown out.

I pack my brushes in a makeup bag that looks like a pencil case so everything is kept together plus it's small so it doesn't take up much space.

For my trip in June I'm ordering a clear quart sized bag from Flight 001, which is $10 and I think I'll be able to fit a bit more into that then say a Ziplock bag.

I use Sonia kashuk weekender bag it fits everything, I have no travel size brushes and all my face and eyeshadow brushes fit here as well as 4 palettes and 1 oz full sized foundation etc.

Regarding skincare, I use nalgene travel bottles purchased from Amazon. These are heavy duty, and leak free. I guarantee it because I used to work for a bio chemical company and these were the bottles we used for chemicals, so you know it won't burst during flight.

Any one liquid cannot be over 3.4 oz, otherwise will need to be checked in. You won't have to worry about these if you have travel bottles.

They will not take away your products as foundation does not ever go above 1 oz.

the Sonia kashuk weekender bag comes with a detachable clear bag that you can put your liquids in, therefore it will be easy to go through security. The bag cost 29.99 at target.

And Nalgene bottles pictured here are purchasable from Amazon. Some bottles are 4 oz which you won't use but the other ones are 1-2 oz, there are also other kits available but I chose this one

As for making sure nothing leaks, uncap the product and place some plastic wrap around it for extra protection then put the cap back on.

Put most of that stuff in your checked luggage. I double bag in Zip lock FREEZER bags. Place items into the smaller individual bags, then place the individual bags into the larger FREEZER bag. Then try to pack in the middle of your suitcase so your clothes on either side of the bag will absorb the shock of getting tossed around.

Hi Molly, I traveled a lot so I know what you're saying. These pics are from my IG account so I can show you examples. I purchased these makeup bag and bottles from Hautelook. But you can find these at any store or online. Make sure it's a TSA approved. Mine are. And with right amount of products. It doesn't matter if it's checked in or carry on. Good luck!

I like too carry my make up bag on the plane with me. Also Put a cotton pads or cotton rounds in your compact makeup cases. Target has really nice ones that can storage a lot of makeup and brushes.

A good tip I've learned is to take a wash cloth and wrap around glass bottles or things that may tend to leak and double bag them. That's if you're putting them in your checked bag. For carry-on I put all my liquid makeup/toiletries in a quart sized zip-lock bag and pull it out and place it in the bin when going through security as you are requested to do. Powders and other items I keep on hand for touch-ups are in a small makeup bag. I tend to only keep a small eyeshadow palette, brow kit, one lip gloss and powder with me ON the plane and put the rest in my checked bag wrapped up nicely with a wash cloth or in my Mary Kay fold up bag. I mean you're not on the plan to impress anyone and that's more than enough makeup to make you look decent. But that's just my opinion. I always tend to take less to my destination than what I bring home so I ALWAYS bring a HUGE purse or tote with me as my personal item, and then a carry on and checked bag. You may need to check with the airline you're flying with though to see what their regulations are for personal items though. I usually fly American so you're allowed a carry-on and a personal item (purse/tote for me).
