If you have really long hair with split ends and you trim them short is it true that it won't grow as long anymore because your hair has already been damaged? I've rarely trim my hair, maybe like once a year.

Hair won't grow of its damaged. If you don't cut off all of your split ends then they'll just continue up the hair shaft and your hair won't grow. It's important to get regular trims to keep your hair healthy and growing (:

If you have split ends I suggest you cut them as soon as you can
. the longer you leave them, the 'higher" they will split your hair, if that makes sense. Plus you'll feel it growing healthier! Maybe you coukd try to trim it every 5/6 months

Your hair will grow because it doesn't grow from your ends but from your scalp. However, the split ends weaken your hair and cause breakage and make it difficult to retain length.

I had the same problem. I really didn't want a trim bc I liked my long hair and was afraid it wouldn't grow anymore. But I recently got a trim and my hair is 1. so much healthier and 2. already growing faster.

I agree with Kitty. My sisters hair is extremely long and continues to grow, but it's in AWFUL condition and she has tons of breakage and split ends. I'd recommend cutting it still because it'll be stronger.

Alexis is right, actually trimming your ends often will help your hair grow quicker, definitely not slower. I suggest trimming your hair every 3 or so months and using coconut oil or Aragon oil with keratin

It will still grow, but an increase in overall length is less likely if your ends are continuing to break off at the splits. If you trim them your hair will grow at the same rate, just retain more length because un split hair usually only falls from the scalp. I can tell if my split ends are breaking off by brushing my hair and noticing shorter hairs breaking off and brushing out at the ends.

Plus, it'll look better to have it trimmed than to let it grow long and have ends that are a lot thinner.
