Okay ladies, my hair was dyed very dark brown and I hated it. I'm going back to a dark ash blonde. Last night I lightened my hair, with 30 v developer and it actually came out a few levels lighter than I anticipated. I expected bright orange, but I got light orange with some (of where my highlights used to be) a very pretty platinum. My question is, should I lift again before applying a darker ash blonde color to my hair or would it cover the orange the level I'm at? Pic of hair coming...

If that's your natural colour couldn't you have got it stripped at a hairdressers, as opposed to bleaching it yourself?
I would personally lift again otherwise you will get a very red-toned ash

Okay here's the thing, I have done this many times. I haven't had my natural color in yeeeeeears. Bleaching at home for me is no biggie. I've gotten very good at it and I know my products. Yes I had to bleach because under that dark brown was a fuschia color, and I want the red out of my hair. If I have to wait a while, re lighten and then go for my ash that's fine by me. I'm just not sure on what level my hair should be at before I deposit an ash color and actually reap the benefits. Thanks for your help :) I will wait a week or two, and then lighten it even more. The reason I don't go to salons anymore for color is because I leave with an empty wallet and nothing like what I wanted.

Do not keep re bleaching it every other week just to get highlights, it will make your hair much worse!!

Not going for highlights, trying to remove any trace of red tones.

I would lighten it again ,otherwise I think it will still have the red tones...

Lighten it once more :)

And I totally get you with the salons! I always end up hating my hair after I do it all myself.

Is there anyway you could post another picture of your hair down? I don't want to give an opinion until I'm positive, my only concern with lifting it again is where your previous hilites are, if they're already very pale and you lighten again they may become to porous and grab much to green. I also think to achieve you're desired result a beige violet toner may be a better choice than straight ash but again I want a better idea of where you are now :)

You really should just go to a salon

I would lighten it once more. However use a bleach that takes the warm tones out of your hair

Lightening your hair won't get rid of the red tones. it will only cause more damage. instead you need to do a demi permanent ash toner.

I wouldn't typically use an ash (green) to counter orange, I'd have a blue base to neutralize and go from there. Baileigh what color line do you work with and what formula would you use? I'm always interested in hearing new things and finding ideas I wouldn't come to myself :) You are basically in a color correction stage, you can do it yourself or like others have suggested seeing a stylist to finish the job you started.

Go to the salon. If you need proffesional help like your title reads and the fact that everyone is pretty much giving different answers... the salon would probably be the best option right now. You could end up messing up your hair without priffesional consultation and you would in the end most likely either A) Just waiting for it to grow to your natural color while settling with what ever comes out or B) chopping it all off.

Okay so I know I said to lighten earlier. But personally I would go to a salon. I understand it can be frustrating to go and someone does it different than you wanted, but really do some research before just going to anyone.
Most stylist have facebook or instagrma with pictures of their work & most the time if you have any "for sale" sites on facebook that you follow, you could ask (or even just ask on your own fb) of anyone who does hair good. Good colorist can be hard to find but believe me, they are out there, just do your research first...

Thank you all, I went to see a professional who could assess in person and all she said needs to be done is a really good toning. She recommended I go to Sallys and get wella t18 and wella t14, and 20 volume developer. She said she swears by it and it's her go to when clients come to her in my exact situation and this is her saving grace. So, I went to Sallys and bought it. After I finish it, I'll post an update. Thank you all so much, sorry If I sounded hasty earlier... But this has me suuuper stressed.

T18 might be too light to tone your hair.
My aunt tried to tone her hair and hers was lighter and more of an orange but the toner did nothing.
Toners are quite sheer/gel like. They're basically just going to tint your hair with the violet/blue or ash tone.
I'd just get a silver shampoo since they're darker in pigment.
The longer you have it on the more it'll stain the hair and allow for the darker hair to be toned.

Even on the guide for the wella charm toner it mentions your hair has to be at a certain level to work and yours seems to be the wrong level and tone

Well, it worked! It says to leave it in for 30minutes, I only left it for 15. Looks 10000x better. And yes, I bought a good purple/silver shampoo. Pics when it's dry...

I would try toning it first since it's less damaging. This is the one I use and it is amazing.
