Hey guys I need help. My skin is so so dry. It has started to form sores and crack! I usually use coconut oil when my skin is a little dry but it is way to dry now. Any suggestions are appreciated.

My dermatologist recommended me this for the winter, for my dry skin, and it's only been about a month but I've definitely noticed a difference in moisture. My skin feels soft and moisturized for 24+ hours after applying. The only downside is it smells a little unpleasant, it goes away after it absorbs (about 5 minutes) but it is noticeable if you're in a small enclosed space like a bathroom. I use to use eucerin, its a great line as well. Not as good but still locks in moisture. :)

Coconut oil isn't that hydrating, it's more of an oil to use in the summer and is used in soaps cause it can help strip the skin of things

I'd use the Cerave moisturizing cream.
It's my all time favorite.
It's about $12 at a regular drugstore for a good size jar but the newer ones have pumps I believe.
It's the only cream that worked for me when my skin was dry/cracked and peeling from tretinoin gel

I've had severely dry skin from Accutane in the past and I think that Cetaphil moisture cream is the best option for drugstore brands. I've been using Shiseido night emulsion for moisturizer currently and it's the best I've ever used and I'm a complete products junkie. It's basically impossible to have dry skin with it Lol. My face is even too oily at times even (it's winter in New England too which is miserable with dryness), which is more manageable than dry skin in my opinion.

CeraVe! I agree with Aurora on the coconut oil; I used it for two years before I realized it was doing nothing for my dryness. Oils especially coconut, are sealants which means its only going to cling to the top of your skin appearing moisturizing, but actually its just sitting on top and not sinking into your skin to hydrate. Its probably just clogging your pores and actually could just be making your dryness worse like it was for me.

I recommend the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. Its very gentle and it really helped my dryness.

For moisturizer I recommend starting with the Moisturizing Lotion, if that doesn't help with your dryness then go to the Moisturizing Cream (in the jar). Its a lot thicker than the lotion and what I've been using for over a year now. But, I recently switched to the Night Time Renewal Cream and it has tremendously helped me. I would try that if the cream still isn't cutting it for you. Honestly since your skin is cracking so bad you might want to start with that and skip the first two. I use it both in the am and pm. But you might just need to use it at night and use the Lotion for in the morning. You just kinda have to figure out what works for you. I recommend buying CeraVes products if you can because its usually cheaper than walgreens and cvs, and they have little travel gifts that way you could sample out some of their products...

Also Cerave often has a coupon on their website you can print out.

You should make a mask for your face. Its not all about looking good with makeup on. You firstly have to make yourself look natural without any help or use of makeup. So check out what you need to smooth your skin properly.
