I've decided to look into getting hair extensions. I'm looking for an option that lasts awhile versus clip in. I had my son 3.5 years ago and a ton of my hair fell out and hasn't gotten back to the same thickness. It's mainly thin on the sides as you can see from the pic. I really never put it up anymore because of this, but it looks ok when down. I basically just need a little extra fullness. I've heard tape in extensions are good. Any other recommendations or things to consider? This is new for me. Thanks for the help!!

It's going to boil down to what sort of time and money you are able and willing to put into extensions as well as your lifestyle. I think your hair looks quite pretty, but I get that medically your hair has changed and I can personally relate to that.

You DO still have quite a bit of hair so you wouldn't need many beaded wefts if you went that route. What kind of budget do you have? Do you wear hair up often? Are you willing to see a stylist approximately every 6 weeks or so to get microbeads pushed up or tape-ins moved up?

I think those are the really important questions when making your decision....that and do you have a great stylist that specializes in extensions that ALSO has a great hair source? Quality dark and medium hair is much easier to find than lighter tones, but even then there are many shady places that will sell you bad batches in any instances. You want to be sure you have a reputable stylist with more than first-time clients and installations on both Yelp and Foursquare along with photos if you do choose to go that route. You also want to research their hair source. Vet the hair brands and sources out thoroughly. You have to view the big picture here.

You wouldn't need more than a single pack of double wefts for cold fusion/beaded hair. If you were a blonde, had shorter or thinner hair, then your cost would be higher, but based on your photos, you don't need much to give you a fuller look.

Thanks Rozberry! This is very helpful. I'd like to spend around 300 and I don't mind a some maintenance every few months of around 150 or so. Not sure if this is feasible. Do you have any experience regarding beads versus tape in? The beads sounds so much better, but I've heard they're damaging. I'd really like something that is the least damaging and lasts the longest. I really don't need a lot so I'm not sure how to find someplace that can just do a little. Also live in Boston where costs are high for everything.

I can't quote prices as my stylist is a dear friend and a hardcore Pro. I'm not paying what someone else would, so that's difficult to gauge for both service and product. The level of my cold fusion quality is so high. I'm truly blessed to have friends that keep me presentable...lol With any product, you take a risk. Everyone's hair is SO different. The amount you would need would be minimal. I mean...there's stories about all types, even clip ins, so you are always taking chances. Aside from clip ins, you need to go like clockwork to maintain beads and tape ins. There is no "every few months" option with either method. There's also a physical element to consider with both..how they feel physically. The nice thing is that, with high quality hair and proper installation, your hair will be soft, hold a curl, involve wayyy less washing and drying..or the need to style daily if you sleep with hair up loosely. You can try with 1 pack. A great salon won't force you to purchase product you don't need. Your best bet is find a salon that does one or the other...or both...and book a consultation with a Master Stylist. They'll explain the entire process, product, maintenance, costs, etc.

My own opinion is that it sounds like you might love clip ins. They'l last a long time if you take excellent care of them and you don't go for the cheapest ones..get the double drawn, virgin, remy hair. (Some country origins have much better graded hair than others) You could put them in any day you want and wear them all day..then take them out to sleep. You can't be tugging on hair with clips on the scalp and so use caution...move them around. Don't be wearing it in the same spot every time or be napping in them...etc. You could get a single clip-in extension, you can get a set and not use all the clips...it really offers you a commitment free way to add fullness and volume with more style staying power. I wouldn't personally wear them every single day, but some people do. But, hey, I do lots of stuff others wouldn't do either, so there ya have it. ;)

I hope that is of help.

Hi Rozberry, Yes, I did it this past weekend and I'm in love!! I went with the tape ins. I don't know how they compare to other kinds, but I really like them so far. I hope I don't have any issues, but they are great so far. I can't even tell my hair from the extensions. It's crazy! Thanks for the awesome advice and I'm so glad I did this 😄
