Everytime I paint my nails, it all goes perfectly until I add my top coat: the polish appears to get bubbles in it. I don't quite know how to explain it. Does anybody know the fix?

What polish do you use?

I use mineral wear base coat, Essie for color and a Sally Hansen top coat

I find that this happens if I either apply the top coat before the nail polish has dried a bit, if I use too much top coat, or if I apply the top coat in a room with air con.

I agree with Sabrina. I've also had it happen when running my nails under cold water prior to drying.

I think the last two are what's causing mine, Sabrina. My nails chip ridiculously easy so I usually pile on the top coat to prevent that, but I guess it is just causing different issues. I'll redo my nails tonight to see if using less makes much of a difference.
Do you know of a top coat that does a really good job of preventing chipping?

Try China glaze fast dry top coat. Looks like gel and dries within seconds. I haven't had problems with smearing or bubbles since!

Kinen, yeah piling on top coat usually don't make anything better, but it is appealing to do to prevent chipping!
I use seche vite top coat and absolutely swear by it, will never use anything else. My mani last from 4-7 days depending on how rough I am on my nails.

But preventing chipping also has to do with the other steps. Use a good base coat, 2 thin layers of color and let them dry in between and then a good top coat!

Thanks everybody for the help 😊

Yeah, this usually happens if you apply too much, the top coat is old/thickened.

As far as a good top coat, I quite like Seche Vite but I've tried a few of those "gel top coats" that aren't actually gel polishes but I noticed they gave really good shine plus wear compared to regular top coats in general.

Is it possible that you are shaking it too vigorously? Shaking it too much will cause air bubbles to form, esp. if the polish is old out too thick. It's best to gently roll it back and forth before using. It may need some thinner or it just may be a lost cause.

I opened the bottle of nail polish for the first time while painting my nails. I went ahead a purchased a new top coat, though because I am not sure when I got it

This happens to me I don't know why though.

Update:::: I redid my nails using the same base and color, with a new top coat. I also turned off the fan when I got to the top coat and the bubbles are gone. Thank you everybody for the help!

Also if you apply the nail polish in one thick coat instead of thin layers that dry faster it's better for you.
