Hey everyone,

I just have a few random questions about doing makeup on my sister and her friend in 2 weeks. I already did a trial but I want to make sure everything is perfect the day of.

1) my sister has some "texture" on her cheeks, like where she has had some blemishes. it isnt bad and its her skin colour (no redness), but is the only way to mask the texture with primer?

2) Her friend doesn't want to wear foundation or concealer. she has beautiful skin and a lot of freckles. she still wants a bit of bronzer and highlight. Is it ok to layer the powders over moisterizer? will it last? I will spray some setting spray for sure.

3) other than lipstick and powder, is there anything they should bring with them?

4) how do I effectively apply mascara on someone? I feel like I'm always so shakey and I don't get close to the root of the lashes... I always try to stand up above the person but its so hard.

thank you soooo much!!

Texture issues: Not too much you can do about that. Make sure your sister comes to you with properly cleansed, exfoliated, toned and moisturized skin for you. You can use over the counter fillers if she has some acne scarring. One product that works really really well is Kiehl's Double Strength Wrinkle filler. It's a cream that plumps up and fills fine lines. If she has any pitted scarring, this product does a really great job in terms of filling for a nice even surface.

With texture issues, I tend to use a thicker primer like L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. It is truly is like Spackle for texture challenged skin. It's much thicker than any traditional silicone blend primer around, but for individuals with texture issues, this is a fantgastic primer. It evens everything out quite nicely. When you apply it, you have to gently tap the product into the skin because if you don't, it will ball up.

Sure you can apply powder minus the foundation. What I do, just for the sake of stability, I apply a little Too faced Primed and Poreless before applying powder so it won't sink into any lines or enlarged pores. I would also tell them to bring their own mascara or disposeable mascara wands for you to use.

Applying mascara on someone else can be tricky because of the blink factor. Don't be afraid to get on into and up in that lash line. What I do is use my ring finger and gently lift the skin of the the brow bone up a bit with a clean powder puff as to not disturb the makeup. Then I tell them to focus on my shoulder, and then I take the wand and put it right up against the lash line and start to wiggle the wand in a back and forth movements and zigzag the wand all the way through the base of the lashes. This is what's going to give the lashes nice separation and volume. Once I do that, then I tell them to look downwards so I can see the tops of their lashes and I roll my mascara wand through the lashes to give them length.  :)
