I wasn't planning on posting this bec in not crazy about it but let me explain. I'm going on the news to demonstrate a Mardi Gras parade-going look, (NOT a Mardi Gras ball look) and I practiced with this look. Mardi Gras colors are green, purple, and gold. So I went a little overboard, a little over the top. I think for my news segment I'll do something different, way more toned down.
Key points: MUFE HD foundation, KVD contour, Becca Moonstone highlight.
Eyes: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (the purple one) on inner and outer corner, blended with Mac Fig, which is surprisingly low pigmented. UD Heavy Metal glitter liner in Midnight Cowboy smeared on the middle of my lids. NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Beanstalk under my eye, with Sephora glitter liner in green on top. Inglot gel liner, and House of Lashes false lashes.
Lips: Too Faced Melted Metallic... the purple one! Can't remember name.
So is it a hot mess? You can be honest.

Oh wait! I actually ended up putting a KVD liquid lipstick on top. I'll have to look up the color.

The lip color is Too Faced Melted Metallic Jelly, topped with KVD liquid lipstick in Bauhaus.

I really like this. It's perfect for Mardi Gras. I don't think it's a hot mess at all, you look fab (:

I love the eyes but the lips should be more nude in my opinion but they still look great.

Great for Mardi Gras

I mean, it's Mardi Gras. If I saw someone doing this as an everyday look I would wonder what they were thinking, but Mardi Gras is a bit like Halloween in that it's okay to be over the top. I think it looks good for its purpose.

Angela that's what I was thinking. It's a little crazy, but Mardi Gras is nothing if not crazy. I think for my news segment though, I'll tone it down and make it easier for people at home to recreate. I posted it on IG and I was nervous about it looking just awful!

That's not a bad idea. May I also suggest trying to create what your going for with drugstore brands? Unless someone is really into makeup, they're not going to be really familiar with most of the brands you used and that's unlikely to go out and buy more expensive makeup just to recreate one look.

Absolutely! You're completely right, that's why I used the NYX pencils, and for the eyeshadow I'm just going to suggest any purple shadow.
Ok actually what I'm going to do is, just suggest any purple eyeshadow on the lid and then show how they can use a gold glitter liner for the middle of the eye. For my models other eye, I'm going to do a smokey green, and show how to line with gold glitter liner. So I'm just going to suggest they use any eyeshadow they may already have, and I'll showcase the Urban Decay Heavy Metal liner to demonstrate how it can be a liner AND it can be used all over the lid. That way I'm only naming one brand, and maybe I'll include the NYX as an option since its drugstore. Like use the green as a cream eyeshadow and blend out maybe. What do you think?

Oh and also, the segment is only four mins long so I don't talk about the whole entire look, just the eyes really. I'll have her in purple lipstick and do one eye purple with the gold glitter, and one eye green with glitter liner. Everything will already be applied except for the gold glitter. That's all I'll have time to apply with our time frame. But I can mention the eyeshadow.

Yeah, I think that would work. Giving both high end and drugstore options will make it more accessible to everyone. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

If the focus is the eyes then you can make the lips softer right? That's the only thing that makes it too much in my opinion.

Kathryn R.

Yes I can make the lips softer. It's a "parade-going" look so I went all in. But I think a softer purple would definitely be more appealing to most people. Great suggestion!
