I would suggest you fill in your eyebrows. It would really change your face!

Thank you RT and Nathalie but I need more help than that, I need to know how to apply eye shadow to hooded eyes. There is so much going on with my face, I have gone to Sephora and Mac to have them do my makeup but I felt I had half the bottle of foundation on my face and the shades were off big time. I think I will have to go makeup artist for help. Thank you again!!

I agree with you, a visit to a pro makeup artist can be a great thing. Do your research, select someone who has a license or a permit or whatever they call it in your state, check out their website and see what their education and experience is. It's ok to be sure you have someone who is educated! I usually don't recommend watching YouTube videos, however I do love Wayne Goss and he has quite a few videos on eyeshadow for hooded eyes. It is a lot to tackle here, but I'll give it a shot and say I would fill in your brows, cover your whole eyelid area with a skin toned, matte shadow, and (I would need to see closer) I would again use a matte color on your lid, pulling it out slightly in the outer corner. Then I would make the focus of the look be radiant skin, (dewy foundations can help you look younger by reflecting the light and hiding fine lines and wrinkles) and I would do some sculpting with contour and a non-nude lip color that suits your skin tone. Hope that helps, and you're on the right track with thinking of visiting a makeup artist.

Thank you Kathryn, I do watch Wayne Goss videos, I think I watch too many of them, Wayne, Lisa Elridge and Jaclyn Hill are the 3 I watch the most. I wish someone would use a mature model who has all my problems lol. Thank you again for your reply.

I love them, too! Jordan Liberty is another one who actually works in the industry. I find he gives really good verbal advice, I don't get quite as much from the visuals of his tutorials but he does lecture a little bit and I get a lot out of that. Good luck to you!

Shan, I'm 58 and just started getting into makeup about a year ago. I find the most important thing to be skin care. Once you have the best skin you can, makeup is easier. I love It Cosmetics CC Cream. It's moisturizing and has good skincare ingredients, however I use other moisturizer before applying it. I read a lot on this website and others. I watched videos pertaining to "mature women." Wayne Goss, as Kathryn mentioned, is wonderful and has tutorials for older women - skin, hooded eyes, application, etc. If you check out YouTube, you can do a search for tutorials for mature women. This is what I did. I ask questions here on Beautylish, and experiment a lot. I've spent a lot of money on different products - some I won't use - but am also getting to know which colors I like best for my age and skin tone. I've had a few different people do my makeup for me - usually a specific area of my face as opposed to the whole face - either eyes or blush placement. Etsy has some great info as well. It takes time and effort. I am constantly reading and checking out products. If only I could make a living with all I put into it! The main thing is to have fun. For me, this is my only creative outlet. I agree that well-shaped eyebrows would really brighten your face. You have great lips...nice and full, and great cheekbones. Take the time to learn, is my advice. Good luck! (I'm no expert, but if you have any questions, I'm happy to share!)

P.S. I have tattoo'd eyeliner (and lips and brows, too!) as well. They do appear to be bluish. I had an area done that I don't like any more, so I asked here on Beautilish how to cover it with makeup - it's a pain, but it works. I'd also go back to my tattoo artist (make sure she's spectacular!) to fill in what is faded or to reline. My tattoo artist is using flesh colored tattoo to lighten the area I don't like any more. It's not completely gone, but it's a lot better.

Jacqueline, I love the skin care products I use, but you've slipped a bee in my bonnet about Mila Moursi! Are those the 2 products of hers that you'd recommend beginning with? How could I learn which products in her line would work best for me? (I've always followed my facialist's instructions!)

Where does one find Jordan Liberty's advice?

So exciting! I will definitely email Alicia! LOVE skincare!
Kathryn did not recommend his videos, I thought...? I'll check them out, but where else could one find his "verbal advice?"
Thank you guys!

One youtuber I watch is Hot & Flashy. She is over 50 and doesn't like heavy makeup either. And a lot of her videos are about over 50 skincare which imo is more important than the makeup.

I think you look nice. When I do my mom's makeup (62 years old) I use garnier anti aging bb cream as a primer, then her foundation, cream brush, mascara, and eyebrows. She also had her lower lash line tattooed, and is uneven now, I line her water line with a peach or white eye liner pencil, I line her upper lash line with brown eye liner and earth tone eyeshadows. Mauve rosie lipstick. For the dark spots you can use vitamin C serum, and use face creams with retinol.

I'm nowhere near as educated/experienced as Ms. Jackie or Kathryn, but at 47, I can feel your pain. As the others have said, prepping your skin is going to be one of the best things to do before you apply any makeup. The most expensive products will look like garbage on a poor canvas. I definitely second the IT's CC cream - a light hand is your best friend. (I also love the RCMA for special occasions). Don't over powder, stay away from glitter (but a light shimmer can do wonders). Try products to diffuse light that don't make you look like a disco ball. Hourglass makes lovely products. I can't help you on hooded eyes, but these lovelies will not steer you wrong. You're beautiful. Embrace yourself!

Yep, that's what I meant! Jordan Liberty talks a good bit in his videos and I love how he's not afraid to speak out, he doesn't hold his tongue and I love him! And Jaqueline, YOU just said I gave good advice! My night is made! 😃

Chris I meant that in general I don't recommend YouTube videos just because it can be difficult for a beginner to find artists with education as opposed to people who do makeup as a hobby and may unintentionally lead you in the wrong direction (using bronzer as contour for instance) but I love Jordan Liberty, his channel is called Give Good Face and I think he has a blog too, I'm not 100%. I also love Wayne Goss and Lisa Eldridge on YouTube. All very successful and knowledgable artists! ❤️

Thanks you Kathryn! I'm a big Wayne Goss fan, but not sure if I've seen Lisa Eldridge...sounds familiar...?

She's a celebrity artist. She works on celebrities for red carpet events and for photo shoots in various popular magazines. That may be why it sounds familiar! :)
