Need help on brows.

So I'm improving but my problem is that I can't do the whole gradient looking thing in my brows. My brows look like they're sparse in some places and thick in other places. I tried using a light hand like some of you guys said but it ends up being too light so I have to use a stronger hand to do it. Help, how can I get that gradient effect that I see in some brows? And yes I do comb them off with a spoolie but it usually ends up looking like I have smudges on my brows.
