I feel silly asking this but what is the difference between a face mist and setting spray I was under the impression that they are the same thing but I'm not sure what the difference is also I'm in need of a setting spray and a face mist I live in Canada if you guys know of any drug store products like that it would be amazing thank you in advance.

A setting spray does just that, it sets your makeup, while a face mist just takes away powdery residue and hydrates the skin without setting your makeup.
For setting spray I recommend the NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray (they have a dewy finish one as well but I've never used that one).

Well I don't know about face mist but primer helps get a smooth canvas filling in any gaps on your skin to get a perfect foundation application...

It depends on who you ask.
"Setting spray" (now commonly referred to as "face mist" or "fixing spray")
was actually something like the MAC Fix plus which is basically just water and glycerin. It would set your makeup by helping to mend the layers of makeup together which literally sets your makeup. It helps to sort of... Allow the powder(blush, bronzer, contour etc) to kind mend with your base (foundation) and concealer. It's also great at getting rid of the powdery look and can be used as a light moisturizer or to foil your eyeshadows with
"Fixing spray" (been referred to as "setting spray")
Are ones like the urban decay all nighter spray, NYX finishing spray etc (usually have alcohol in them) which help with the longevity of your makeup and these work best OVER a setting spray(what others call misting spray, fixing spray)
since they help mend the makeup together, fixing spray(what others call "setting spray") would work better when the layers of makeup are meshed together so you're helping the longevity of that, now, one layer of makeup rather than just the upper most layer.
The terms are kind of different but it does make more sense that the more water/glycerin sprays are called "setting sprays" since they do help set rather than help with longevity
Anyway, on YouTube you can find a recipe to make something the MAC Fix Plus, you spray after your makeup and then use something like the NYX Matte Setting spray after that to help with longevity.

I used powder black eyeshadow.
The bottom swatch is the eyeshadow by itself.
The middle I used a setting spray, fix + (others call a misting spray, refreshing spray etc)
Then the top swatch I used a finishing spray, the Green Marble Selr Spray (what others call a setting spray)
As you can see when I rubbed it gently a few times the last swatch moved around and smudged quite a lot.
The middle swatch (with fix plus)
It smudged but not NEARLY as much as the last swatch so to say it "doesn't set" is a bit misleading.
Now, notice the top swatch smudged a little bit too, maybe even a little more than when I used fix plus.
It's because the fixing spray evaporates a bit too fast and didn' really get to... Mend the powder down onto my skin so it allowed it to smudge still

It's great to see people learn makeup information from BL especially those whom didn't know next to any info until they joined this site which is great and shows how helpful BL community info spreads and how many pay attention. Fixative sealant sprays seal and help longevity. Can be applied before and after product. :)
