I'm like you, I do a lot of research before I buy high end products. And yes they would have to throw it out, it makes me wonder why other places do with the products that have been used. It's possible they throw them out but it doesn't make sense that they are ok with that.

Yeah I guess it's just an American thing cause most all places allow returns there - but I'm no stranger to doing research and sometimes even if I do my research I still end up with $40 wasted on a foundation I rarely end up using cause I don't like it - but $40 is really not much to go to waste IMO - and you can always try reselling it to someone using something like Craigslist or another online yard sale outlet - some people have no problem buying lightly used makeup especially if it's high end - either way I would suggest looking up YouTube videos that review using the product - that's going to be the best way to see how it applies, the finish and how people feel about it - anyways best of luck in your search for reviews :)

Thank you Diana, I did have a look at YouTube reviews. I already bought the foundation a few mins ago and I hope I got the right shade, I'm so nervous and can't wait till I get my hands on it.

Great yeah I hope it works out for you! If it ends being slightly too light you can warm it up with a bronzer (that's what I do) or if it's a little too dark you can save it for summer if you tan easily or mix it with a moisturizer to lighten it up.
