Hey Everyone,
I know this has been asked probably a million times, but I need suggestions on a good skin care routine now that I'm done with school. My problem is that my skin is oily generally, but then turns dry and flakey. I feel that I have bad skin from long days as a nursing student, and a pizza shop worker by night. Please recommend skin care products to help my skin improve, PREFERABLY drug store brands since I'm a broke nursing student. Thanks everyone!! :)

I am oily with occasionally dry flaky spots. I stopped doing a crazy routine and it has worked the BEST. All I used is philosophy purity to take off makeup and cleanse my skin twice a day and then what ever moisturizer. It's simple and it works fabulously. Moisturizers from the drug store I've enjoyed were the olay ones in the plain white bottles and garnier gel in the tub.

Philosophy isnt drugstore but I justified the price by simplifying my process and stopped wasting money trying new things

Thank you for the suggestions! I put drug store preferably since I figured on buying multiple items, but if it's a simple process then I'm fine with spending the money. I'll definitely look into it, I really want to treat my skin well before I go back to school.

I agree with MakeUp A.
It's less about what products and more about steps that work for you then filling in the rest based on your skin type.
1. Cleanser
2. Toner
3. Moisturizer
These are your basic needs for a solid regimen. If you have dry patches 4. would be an exfoliator. Although you can exfoliate as often as you see fit anyway.
If you want to get fancy lol or try things for skin type I would then look into peels, mud masks, creams, etc.
Betonite clay is great for cutting into oily skin btw. I hope this helps :)

Thank you Chelle! I never even thought about doing a mask too. Where do you get Bentonite clay?

I personally only have experience with dryness but my skin is also really prone to breakouts so I have some really good products for sensitive skin in mind that I think work for a majority of skin types because they're more gentle.
1. Burts bees cleansing oil. I love oil cleansers. I feel like they just get rid of everything and leave the skin really soft and hydrated. Of course you're going to want to use this sparingly if you have oily skin or only use it on those days when you notice dry and flaky spots appearing.
2. Forming dmae moisturizer from dermal. Vegan, all natural and cruelty free. It's available at target and moisturizers without that slick or oily feeling that sometimes gets left behind with moisturizers.
3.cerave foaming facial cleanser is really nice. It softens the skin but works for many different skin types and isn't packed with anything that will exaggerate oil. You can fins fit at cvs or target.
4. Laneige water bank moisture cream is at target. Although the it's formulated more for dry skin I'd recommend having it on hand or something similar for the dry and flaky spots you say you get.
5. If you are willing to sink in a bit more money I would really recommend the Clinique 3 step. I've done the one for acne and dry/combo skin. I love it. My current set I've had since December as I got it as a gift. I still have at least another 2 weeks worth of products in it. Although it's an investment I do think Clinique has some of the best skincare for all different skin types. Plus their sets are designed for each skin types so you an get a whole set with the products you need for your skin. That way you don't have to spend time mixing and matching different brands or products. I've recently moved on from the line because it did its job and I like to switch things so my skin doesn't get used to something and it stops working over a period of time. The set is an investment but I do think it's worth it at least in order to get your skin into a healthy state before switching to another routine.
I also recommend when you start a new routine to introduce products one at a time for a period of a week at a time. So, if you try a new cleanser, introduce that for about a week using it like every other day or so. After you've done that add the toner following the same routine before adding the moisturizer or other products. This helps keep your skin from being frazzled from so many new products. Also, if you have a reaction, you'll be able to know exactly which product is causing it because you'll only be focusing on one at a time.

I get my clay from amazon. if I'm in a pinch, I go to my local health foods place and get it there. betonite clay is inexpensive and awesome for the face. I actually believed that's what made my skin stop overproducing oil.
