Hey all!

I'm looking for some advice for a skin care regimen from beginning to end, day and night.

I have dry skin and am prone to blackheads and spots :(

My makeup goes on fine, but I'd love to be able to walk outside with no face on!

Please help!

What do you mean by spots?

I mean red irritated pimples that secrete nasty white stuff! I get them mainly on my chin and neck area. But also get black heads on my nose, cheeks and forehead.

For daytime cleanse, tone, and moisturize. I would suggest Origins Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash, No7 Beautiful Skin Toner (they have a dry/normal and normal/oily skin formulas).

For nighttime, remove makeup, cleanse, exfoliate, mask, tone, moisturize. I suggest the Garnier Micellar Water for makeup removal, Boscia Exfoliating Perl Gel for exfoliating, Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (since you have dry skin I would suggest using it more as a spot treatment, they do have a hydrating mask called Drink Up or something but I haven't used that one), and Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial for moisturizer.

My own advice is a bit different. I try to avoid drying alcohols and minimize fragrance.

I'd suggest for blackheads deep exfoliation using Paula's Choice BHA at 1%, using every 3rd evening to start and an oil free moisturizer that is fragrance free, such as CeraVe or CeraVe PM. Some members here prefer to use Paula's BHA gel, which is equally formulated to banish blackheads rapidly.

For wash, I'd alternate something with tea tree or salicylic acid..and CeraVe so you retain hydration.
I'd also bring an acne friendly facial oil into the fold, such as Jojoba. It won't give you blackheads, but will help skin retain moisture. When using a BHA, sun protection is a must. CeraVe is affordable and will help moisturize your dry skin. Again, no fragrance. If you aren't toning, Paula's Choice toners are excellent for hydration and restoring proper pH to skin. Formulas are very skin-type/issue specific, making it easy to choose. All of her products have sample sizes.

To reduce breakouts and blackheads, avoid thick moisturizers, waxes, Shea butter, mineral oil, coconut oil..anything that will clog pores. Keep hydration light and apply layers as needed rather than heavy formulations. A Clairsonic works wonders. I'd stick with oil free foundation and for priming, moisturizer is your best bet at this point.

Hope that helps.

You may just have to do trial and error until you find what works best for your skin, but just for the record, here's my current day/night routine:

DAY
1. Wash face with either Soy Fresh Face cleanser and Mia brush or other cleansing
product (sometimes I like to use an olive oil soap, or an avocado/shea/cucumber
soap)
2. Toner (you can use apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, or a myriad of other products)
3. Moisturize (I have a few that I like to rotate)
4. I add an eye area moisturizer as well - it helps my makeup go on smoother and not
settle into wrinkles/lines
5. I have a moisturizing cream that I use specifically for my neck and decolletage area

NIGHT
1. Wash as above
2. I use a couple night time moisturizers - one is a snake venom peptide cream which
is good for anti-aging
3. I add a night time eye area moisturizing cream
4. I use a spot correcting cream as well
