Hey!! I'm sort of panicking right now. My dermatologist has me on some strong medicine and it's making my face completely dry out. My foundatio cause of the flakey skin looks awful every time I try to put it on. Any tips? Freaking out :(

Well my doctor told me that my skin would be really irritated at first but get used to it later. I guess I just tips on covering it up!

Ask him if there some safe ways to combat the side effects while your skin acclimates to the meds. Sheet masks or mild hydrators? You have to be really proactive with some doctors. It irritates me to no end, that some drs. are so cavalier about the inconvenience and or suffering of their patients. But make sure you run it by him of any products you're considering. Btw, I say sheet maks, because they're extremely hydrating and they're not as irritating to sensitive skin, because you're not rubbing a product on your skin and more importantly, you don't have to wipe or rub your skin to get it off. Just make sure to inspect the ingredient list very carefully.

A good product for extremely dry, flakey skin, is the Bobbi Brown Tinted Balm. It's like a tinted moisterizer, but moister. It will hydrate the surface of your skin and "lay" down the flakes so they are less noticeable. But, this is sheer coverage, will leave your skin a little shiney and moist. It doesn't dry down like other TMS & moisterizing foundations. You can try to lightly , and I mean lightly dust powder onto your non flakey areas. But you can't press to hard, the powder cannot mix into the balm or it will be cakey. It also has a strong herbally or lavender scent which can be hard to tolerate. It's also very expensive. Why do I mention this product when it seems to have so many cons? Because it was the only product that hid my flakes when I went overboard on the retin-A 20yrs ago. And I was desperate. If you're curious, get a sample to try first.

Awesome! I'll look in to that too. I'm also on Retin-A.. Ugh. Did it work for you?

I started using retin- a for mild to moderate acne, but now I use it for anti-aging. It's a very effective product and one of the very few products that has fda approved for acne and anti-aging. But as far as the flaking, I would use less product and less often. My skin as been acclimated to it for years and I'm on the strongest strength, but I still don't use it every night. Keep it away from the area around your mouth, around the orbital area and the corners of your mouth. Those are the typically extra sensitive areas. When I went overboard, not only was my skin shedding like a snake, it also hurt, like a burn ing. That's why you have to be very careful with what you put on it. Even if you think it's safe, do a patch test to see how your skin reacts. Even with the sheet masks.

Hi,I have been reading your posts. I have sensitive, dry skin too. My dermatologist took me off my low dose retinal during the winter months. My face is so dry around my nose and under my eyes.I have BB balm, it is one of the better ones!I have moisturizers from the doctor, & high end like Perricone MD,IS clinical serums & creams, to Bliss...Nothing is working under the eyes or nose but I am on medications for hypothyroidism! Although improving a little, anyone know a foundation to try? My skin was always normal, I would love to have it back! My doctor did a light chemical peel to help exfoliate. It helped a little but it is very costly. I know not to over exfoliate, dry skin is frustrating! I have to agree BB balm for moisturizing did work good, like she said, try a patch on your skin and they will give you a sample! Thanks for any foundation help!
