I have just woken up with cold sore on my upper lip. Last time I had it was 3 years ago. Think stress of organising my cousin hen triggered it off. Does using Aztec clay mask would help? I prefer natural topical treatment. Any suggestion?

I don't really know any treatments but the best I can recommend is to just leave it alone until it goes away I think cold sores are from illness or dry skin or something I don't know tho do drink lots of water I think maybe and I don't know sorry.

There are over the counter products like ABREVA to speed healing and even saw these little clear cold sore patches you put over the cold sore, then you can put makeup over it. Although I've never used any of those products because I don't get cold sores. Those products are right next to the lip balms in my local Rite Aide thats where I saw them.

There's tons of OTC stuff you can get for them but to be honest my only relief is from a prescription pill I take daily because I get them really badly. OTC works for pain but abreva for example makes mine swell and look even worse.

I've suffered from cold sores my entire life and recently found the most helpful thing to use is ice. I know it's simple but it works tremendously. I hold an ice cube directly on it (removing every 30 seconds or so to ensure my skin doesn't get too cold) a repeat this throughout the day. I found that it keeps them very tiny and pretty much makes them disappear within a few days. Good luck! Coldsores suck so bad!

Okay. My fiancé gave me coldsores, and I get them SO bad. I have had close to 30 coldsores at one time, and that has happened several times. It has slowed down now, but I usually get one-three every time I get my period. So here is what I know and have tried:

-abreva numbs the lips and sometimes if the wound is open it can sting. I don't notice a huge difference between when I use it religiously vs when I only use it at night. It's also very expensive, $20 for a very small tube. A little goes a long way, but at the rate I get coldsores I go through a tube pretty quick. Sometimes it makes the pain go away though.

- L-lysine is a vitamin you can take that counteracts the herpes virus in the body. L-lysine is found naturally in milk. I usually will always take a few of these per day when I have coldsores. If you decide to use them be careful of the dosage. If you take too much your body becomes intolerant to them and rejects it. At least for me. If I take more than two a day I get really bad stomach cramps and I poop them out real quick. That's at least my experience but I know I'm not alone in that.

- I started using medicated blistex for coldsores, because it's supposed to combat it as well. I prefer to keep my lips very moisturized (some people recommend drying out coldsores) and this stuff does it. Usually at night I will put abreva on the coldsore itself and blistex everywhere else. I use it every night before bed now, it's a good lip balm.

-I have never personally tried this, but my sister told me that vanilla extract on a cotton ball, pressed on the coldsore helps. She says it hurts a lot though.

- the best thing you can really do for a coldsore is drink so so so much water, get a lot of sleep, eat well and don't touch it or pick at it. Usually lack of sleep or too much bad food in a diet, the sun, stress, and hormones in my case can trigger them.

I have tried pretty much everything but the medication from a doctor, although I do have the prescription written up. If you have any questions just ask! :)
