How to apply foundation around your t-zone?

I feel like my foundation always looks okay on my cheeks, but on my nose, chin, and around my eyebrows, it looks strange and patchy, even when I first apply it. I also have the problem of getting foundation on my eyebrows, which I fill in, but I feel like it makes the hairs that I don't fill in stand out.
