I have EXTREMELY dry and sensitive skin, when I apply my foundation and concealer (which I apply with a damp beauty sponge) and set with a powder it turns it very flakey and dry and red on my nose and underneath my eyes until the apples of my cheeks. I've tried various foundations, concealers, application techniques but nothing can ever get it to fully go away. Are there any skincare products or makeup fixes for my super dry, flakey skin??

I would make sure to use a moisturizer before you apply your foundation.

Use a hydrating mask at least weekly and maybe try a oil every day. You should also make sure to use a moisturizing foundation. I find a Beauty blender enhances my dry spots. The sponge absorbs the oils or water in the foundation, leaving the moisturizing properties less potent.

I have THE solution for you girlfriend!! Smashbox Primer Oil! I was having the same problem and just so happened to get some in my Play! box. It is amazing. My makeup was flakey and just looked cracked but with this it looks 100 times better!

Also try the Belif moisturizer (uh-mazing) and for concealer use Nars! It so creamy and hydrating!!

Nothing on planet earth has helped me with this problem other than adding oil to my foundation. I've used the Tarte maracuja oil the PTR oilless oil and the smashbox primer oil with success:) I would recommend buying from somewhere you can return though bc I did try a few that made my makeup separate and apply chunky:(

Oh and Maybelline fit me concealer for your under eye area will be your best friend. I swear when it comes to that dry caking up issue it performs better than Nars or Mac.

Sabrina what product's are you using? Powder on very dry skin can cause a problem. As for the beauty blender soaking up the oils on the skin that's a first I've heard of that, Alyx how did that info come about I'm curious.

Alma I read it on a beauty website (I cannot remember and I just tried googling but couldn't find it I apologize but it was a celebrity makeup artist and it was in a book teaser) but they explained how the little pores in the beauty blender grab the smaller oil molecules more than they grab the slightly larger foundation pigment molecules, which is why you can sometimes get full coverage out of a medium coverage foundation because it isolates the pigment. They did a couple experiments under a microscope by putting an oil based foundation on the bb and applying it to an orange. They applied the same foundation on another orange with their fingers. It definitely gave a different texture and finish but it also looked more dry. Under the microscope it was even worse and they then looked at the bb under the microscope and it was still very soaked in the foundation, but it was more oily. It was actually really cool science wise and the experiment that they did after was using the beauty blender with the same foundation on oily, combination and dry skin and the other side by a flat brush. They then looked at it super close up with photos and you could see that the moisture was not as present in the side applied with the bb. So they were saying it's great for oily skin but can sometimes accentuate dry skin or take away the moisturizing effect of a foundation if it's oil based. After that I realized that the beauty blender really didn't make my foundation look that great and stopped using it. But I've also noticed in YouTube videos that if they have dry skin sometimes the BB doesn't do them any good.

Interesting Alyx Thank you. I'll have to look for the article. Could you imagine putting poreless primer on a orange? I wonder if you could see it fill in the orange pits.:)

Lol alma that has me curious. Kind of wish I had gotten oranges while at the grocery store an hour ago just so I could try it. If I find that article again I'll definitely post it on your profile :) I have about 50 bookmarked pages of mua's websites so it's a lot to go through trying to find it lol.

Wash your face, exfoliate it, moisturize, then prime. Also Revlon has a line of makeup called Hydra-Renewal and its really smooth and not flakey. Even their loose powder goes on feeling kind of wet but it dries and feels/looks amazing on my dry skin
