In my honest opinion I don't see this as a "soft" makeup look. As you can see transition with no seamless flow. You want to be able to make it look effortless with no telling of what you started with and ended. Just a bit more blending would help and a actual skin tone concealer and a highlighter that is a hint radiance to compliment her features & skin tone. The placement of the contour sculpting is low and wide which takes over most side of her face. Try using a smaller contour brush and limit from bringing it to forward. Believe it or not it takes a lot of work to make a soft natural finish to the face. You just need to know how to work with cream product's and have control of the amount of product's over the finish of foundation. I do like the fact your working on it. :)

This is a soft look. Study it and I'm sure you'll get it. ;)

She looks absolutely beautiful, and I do agree with Alma about the contour being in too large of an area. The forehead seems a bit dark as well, but like you said, you didn't have the best lighting. She looks gorgeous though!
