How to tell if make up is cakey?

Not necessarily powdery or matte, but when excess foundation is applied it looks like icing on a cake!

Oh god, that second picture, lol. Cakey is basically when you can see how much product is sitting on top of the skin rather than having it blend into the skin and looking seamless (:
