My hair is naturally dark dark brown like in the picture but I was wondering what the colorist would have to do to get me to the caramel color balayage.

I would personally use a lightener with a 30-40 volume developer depending on how light you want your caramel to be. Then I would tone you, also depending on the dominant pigment at your lightened level.

I went to a colorist and it cost me $90 but keep in mind at that time my hair was shoulder length so it was at that price but the longer my hair was the more it would have been. For your length and to see a colorist, most likely it'll be over $100.
