Hey ladies! I am looking for some advice on how/when to use a protein filler. I'm getting lots of conflicting info in my research, assuming it's because different hair types/colors/stages etc. So I'm going to give as much info as possible, and hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.
So in the past, I've been very careless about the way I dye my hair (usually box dye at home) which has resulted in a lot of damage and hair falling out. So last year I cut off all the damage and I've been babying the hell out of it, so it's healthier than it's ever been. Cue hair boredom. I want to dye my hair super bright orange. I've already got my bleach & developer, and the dye (arctic fox) is on its way. I plan on overnighting with coconut oil and bleaching over it, waiting a week (ish) and then using the orange dye.
So my question is, where does a protein filler fit? Do I even need one? I want to do everything I can to keep my hair healthy. Or as "healthy" as it can be with bleach, that is. But I'm not sure how exactly to use the protein filler. I'm comfortable with everything else, and I really have no problem cutting it all off if I manage to screw it up haha so in the end it doesn't REALLY matter, but I'd take any suggestions on this!

Whoops I meant to include that! My hair is currently like a level 5, but pretty red. I had no idea there was a generic olaplex, that is the best news! If I'm using the olaplex, should I not dye over coconut oil? Or would it be safe to do both? Thank you!

Thank you Hailey! I'll have to look more into the olaplex vs oil. I'm seeing on a lot of fantasy hair boards that a lot of people use it like a more extreme version of bleaching over dirty/oily hair. I'm not wholly convinced it'll do anything but it didn't seem like it'd hurt haha but olaplex may prove to be the better option.

A protein filler you can add into the hair dye itself to help give an even color but if you really want something to help make your hair more manageable and add more protein to the hair I highly suggest the Aphogee two step treatment. You could do with just the first treatment since that's what really strengthens the hair and follow up with your favorite moisturizing treatment.
As far as coconut oil, I've used that when I'd do my roots and I find that it can help prevent the bleach from drying out and I feel like when I used oil in my hair the color lifted a little faster and more evenly. I didn't really notice a difference in whether my hair felt better with or without oil since I only use it on my roots and they tend to be softer in general since it's closer to my scalp and natural oil

Thanks for the tip! I've heard great things about Aphogee before, I don't know why I didn't think of that.
