How can I curl my hair where when I get done it won't feel rough?

You might use too much product. Because when i used to curl my hair, I'd have heat protectant, frizz protectant, split end protectant and then after each curl I'd spray a decent amount of hairspray on it. So after my hair looked so hard and ugly.
