Also cream works better for dry skin and powder works better for oily skin

I like both. It may sound high maintenance but the reason I use both is:
Because after I apply my cream contour, I usually wear a powder blush. So, I like to use the powder contour to lightly air brush it into the blush, so the blush & contour fade into each other and you can't tell where one begins & other ends.

I like powder for daytime but if I'm going out during the night I do both cream/powder! :)

I've always thought of creams to give a more natural and very subtle contour.
Powders are more noticeable in my opinion. I love working with both. I apply cream and set it with a colorless powder and contour with a powder on top.
