Coconut oil as a hair mask helps if you have dry hair. I like to use it at least once a week. For heat protectant I like to use Tresseme.

Most drugstore hair products are actually terrible for your hair. They tend to have too much alcohol which can be drying and the ingredients aren't very good for your hair. I really love the it's a 10 line. It's definitely pricey but so worth it if your hair is important to you. I like the miracle whipped sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. It smells sooo good and leaves your hair feeling really nice. For heat protectant, I use the S Factor. It smells sooo good and gives a really nice finish. Bed head after party is good for for taming any frizzies or fly aways.

It's a 10 has a bunch of different lines. Which one were you using? If you used the keratin one, I could definitely see that damaging your hair if you didn't need the extra protein. I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so I buy it at the pro store, but I'm sure you could find it at a salon in your area. When buying hair products, be sure to purchase them from salons because buying from major chains or drugstores, they could be tampered with or not even the real product.

What key words should I be aware of staying away from when looking for shampoo and conditioner?

Was it blue & gold? Keratin line comes in a blue bottle with gold writing. Think about what your hair needs. If it's dry, try the Paul Mitchell tea tree, that stuff is amazing. If it's frizzy, try something that says sulfate free or zero sulfate, usually for curly hair. Products will say on the labels if they are sulfate or paraben free.
