What is the best type of eyeliner for everyday use? Liquid or pencil? Also black or brown?

I think it really depends on your own personal preference and style - I personally prefer to use a black waterproof pencil for every day - I like UD 24/7 liners.

It is difficult for the pencil eyeliner to move smoothly across my eyelid. Does that mean I should try I different brand or am I not applying it right?

It could be the brand - like I find the UD pencils to be very smooth and easy to blend - but it could be other things like maybe your skin is dry in that area - do you use an eye cream and/or eye primer before you apply it? Also do you sharpen the pencil often?

Which type of eye primer would you recommend?
Apr 28, 2016
Diana T.
Once again I think that depends on you - your skin type and what you want in a primer will determine which one you should use - I find using the same brand primer as the eyeliner/eyeshadow works well - so I use the UD anti-aging one - but I also like the smashbox eye primer as well.

I prefer liquid or gel on my lid since I don't have to worry about having to sharpen the pencil and wasting some product.
I find that with pencils, the tip breaks off with certain ones.
Liquid is good but you just have to get one with a good brush and that depends on the person.
Some prefer ones with bristles, others prefer the felt tip kind.
I find that the ones with bristles can be a tad tricky if the bristles are too long/not dense.
Gel is good cause you can get a brush that works best for you and you can use it on the waterline too.
As far as color, it's really just a preference thing.
Brown can look good/less harsh than black.
When I'm lighter in color I tend to prefer brown but it has to be a deep brown for my taste.

I do liquid for the top in black (Kat Von D Tattoo Liner) and a dark brown pencil for the bottom since I am fair complected; I only do all black top/bottom if its for a bold or special occasion otherwise all black is way to harsh for my everyday looks. And L'Oreal Infalliabe twist up pencil is my go-to.

I like to use liquid on the top and pencil on the bottom. Kat von d's trooper liquid eyeliner is great.

If you want to look more natural, I would stick to brown although for a dramatic look, nothing beats basic black!! Experiment and see what you like...Sometimes I use a gel pencil and smudge it, then use a liquid to make a fine line and my wings. The best liquid for me is NYX - it's waterproof, cheap, easy to use, and lasts all day!
