So I have black hair and I really want to dye the tips of my hair blue/purple... But I don't want to commit right now and hate it later when I get it done so I wanted to test it out with koolaid... Do you think it will show up?? I don't want to bleach my hair either 😬

It won't show up, it'll just dry out your hair. With black/dark hair you have to bleach it to get unnatural colors to show up true to color. I have medium brown hair and when I did my blue ombré I got the ends bleached so the blue showed up a true navy blue and with my current purple hair I bleached everything so it showed up as a dark vibrant purple.

I'm not positive because I've never actually tried it myself and I also don't have black hair but I'm pretty sure it won't show up. It might make your hair have a bit of a color in like direct sunlight but it wouldn't dye it. You'd have to bleach your hair for it to show up at all.

I did that as a kid and it only showed a tint when my hair was in the sunlight but it was very subtle

The hair chalk is a good idea but it is VERY drying so be prepared for that and since your hair is so dark you'll have to wet your hair before you put the chalk on

From what I've heard, Koolaid is VERY permanent. Like you can only get it out unless you cut it out or bleach over the top. I don't think it'd show up on your hair though

Koolaid didn't work for my very dark almost black hair. I was hoping for a red tint but it did nothing. I hate hair chalk it transfers everywhere and can stain clothes. It might have just been the brand I got though.

I would go down the hair chalk route as suggested by nglk D. It is what I use when I want a temporary change from white/grey hair, it is so easy to apply and when you are tired of the color you just shampoo it out. The last time I went purple with turquoise streaked. FaeG mentioned that it dries your hair, she is correct. I always use my Pro Naturals argan oil hair mask after shampoo and then apply the argan oil mainly to the tips as a leave in treatment and leave hair to air dry.
