I don't know if they're harmful, I don't usually wear acrylics but like a few months ago I had cool black ones and after I soaked them and got them off my nails were a little grey for like 3 weeks after. I guess the color rubbed off?

Go to a gooood salon. A lot of the cheaper salons will buff the hell out of your nails. They shouldn't use the electric file, they should only do a quick buff or else it will think your nail down so much to the nerve endings in your nail plates. Also do not rip them off. You should soak them in pure Acetone and buff it off.
