I have thick hair and it's impossible to do messy buns using bobby pins. My hair doesn't like to stay

I have the same problem. I just don't do it because it doesn't work. You could try curling your hair, using elastics/hair ties to make a secured bun, and just pull some pieces and strands out here and there to be loose.

I have the same issue, when your hair is wet, apply some mouse, scrunch hair, not to much just enough to give it waves. flip head over and pull all your hair onto the top of tour head , use a hairtie, make a pony tail, until the last time you go to tighten, then put it like halfway in your hair. slowly pull parts out in different directions, just enough until the desired look. spray a little hair spray, and your done. if you have any pieces that come all the way out or too far, simply fasten with a bobby pin into the center of your bun. hope this helps.

Put your hair up in a baubel in how high you want the bun to be Then put your finger in the whole of the bauble and twist the hair round and put another bauble in and use lots of hairspray throughout
