is it true if you wear your hair of in a pony tail or bun (anything that's a up do) it'll help grow your hair out? I'm thinking its a myth but I'm unsure lol

i think that it is kinda true, usually if you wear your hair in a bun or ponytail it's in a protective style, making it less likely for your hair to get damaged

its correct in a sense if you only do that and not do anything else to your hair (ie curl straighten etc) because it prevents you from fiddling with the ends that could be splitting. its not true in the sense that if you always put your hair up without letting it down it can lead to hair loss and damage

I think it breaks your hair when using hair ties

But when ever I actually have my hair down my friends always comments on how long my hair had grown..So maybe it might be working

If the hair is pulled tight into a style it can stress the root and can lead to hair loss. Tight braids, ponytails, and tightly pulled styles all stress the hair if done frequently.

Thanks for all the comments I always wondered if this was true or not haha

It's somewhat true. Ponytails, braids, and buns are protective styling. They keep your hair from rubbing on your clothes which can lead to breakage and those hairstyles also keep you from playing with your hair and keeps it away from the outside elements which all lead to breakage. Just make sure the hair tie isn't too tight.

I think it might depend on your hair or how tight the ponytail is.. Bc I used to wear my hair up for work a lot and my ends were dying and looking extremely ratchet... But a lot of ppl are saying that it will help your hair grow.. I'm not sure

You can get breakage from wearing ip up all the time too.

I agree with what others said above. It will not make your hair *grow* faster, but it can make it longer in the sense you may experience less breakage. But, that is *only* because you won't be applying as much heat etc. But if you are still straightening/blow drying your hair before putting it in a pony, it would make no difference than if you left it down. Also, when you are wearing a pony, make sure you are not tying the elastic too tight, or pulling your hair back super tight, as this can actually cause more breakage and cause your hair to fall out :)

No it's the opposite, if u wear your hair up it doesn't grow..that's what I heard
