Okay guys so I have been breaking out horribly lately and I decided to try African black soap for the last month and it really hasn't helped at all. Well today I will be using the last of my African black soap and I want to try a new face wash and thought i would go to sephora tomorrow.. What cleanser would you guys recommend from sephora for getting rid of acne?

Are you putting anything but the soap on your face to clear it, because if I just washed my face the acne would not go away, I have prescription medicine to put on my face. However, a good cleanser is, important, if I don't was my face it comes back too, i use Cerev or somthing like that I can't figure out how it's spelled

Just last week i started using apple cider vinegar as a toner which i read should help with my acne and also every other night I put aloe Vera plant on my skin which is supposed to heal. I don't want to over do it too much so lately I've just been trying to find a cleanser that is right for my skin

If I was you, I would invest my money in a product that stays on the skin and isn't washed away right away such as a treatment cream or serum. For acne a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil is ok and then use a medicated toner such as a glycolic acid/salicylic acid and a spot treatment with similar medicated ingredients. When I was a lot younger I thought it was all about cleansers as well but after 15+ years of dealing with acne this is what I've found.

I agree with Laura, I've been struggling with acne since I was 12. I'm 20 now and have found that the cleanser doesn't ever really do much in the way of acne. Its very important to have a good one to keep the skin clean, but I've found that it doesn't actually prevent or treat my acne even if it says it does.
These are what I use/have used that have helped my skin become more manageable and clearer:

- Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-step cleanser
- Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Acne Treatment Lotion
- Clear Days Ahead Spot treatment
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturizer

Pretty much anything from Philosophy has helped me out. I'd try a few of the clear days products and the purity cleanser.

I second the philosophy suggestion...also it's pricey but their retinol cream help me has drastically improved the amount of clogged pores and break outs I get

Also when you go ask for samples. I work at sephora and we are encouraged to give samples. That way you can try it and see how it works :).

Oooooh yeah samples for sure...that's actually how I fell in love with philosophy in the first place...long long ago in a far and distant land I left sephora with a sample of purity made simple...and the obsession began lol

I think Philosophy may still have their skincare favorites kit on amazon. I bought one a while back and it comes with the purity cleanser, the microdelivery exfoliating scrub and hope in a jar. I don't remember how much it was but it wasn't too much to be able to try all three. But obviously samples are free so I'd try to get those first lol

If you're acne isn't hormone related BCPs will do nothing for you...not trying to be negative just don't want you under the impression that BCPs are a cure all

^^ I was going to add something along those lines but Tiffany took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with her though. I don't think birth control pills are the answer unless its hormonal acne. Its definitely not the magic solution for it. I think going to a dermatologist is a better idea. They can give you prescription medicine as well
