My hair color is a light brown. I want a darkish brown color, and bought Garnier's iced mahogany dark brown. Now I've read a few reviews that it sometimes comes out a very dark almost black. If I leave it in a shorter amount of time will it make my hair the color I want? It's supposed to stay in 25 minutes, any suggestions?

You can't leave it in a shorter amount of time but I would say at least 20 minutes. If it's too dark, it will wash out to be lighter

The color will fade. A little. Eventually.
But almost any box dye will go darker than what it is on the box, especially on hair that's been previously colored. ASSUMING that your hair is very healthy and has not been previously colored, the shade may turn out as advertised.
If you're seriously concerned about it, do a strand test (the instruction packet in the box will explain how to do this) for 15 minutes and see what the result is.
This is not for the faint of heart, but I've been known to refresh a red fade by mixing half dye, half conditioner, and applying it to wet hair. Works pretty well...and I'm experimental like that. Bear in mind though that I did it to refresh a red color. I'm not sure how well it would work to change your hair color entirely. It might deposit some color, it might not. I would definitely wash my hair with a clarifying shampoo first to avoid patchiness.

please dont do it arrrggg... you are so pretty ! I think the color you are trying t go for will look amazinggg on you. However box dye from the store never comes out even & drys your hair out really bad.
I only say this from experience & as a full time hairdresser....
I do agree about the clarifying shampoo ;)
