My friend did an essay on animal testing (i'm in grade 8) and there were lots of makeup brands that test on animals, i dont remember all of them but MAC and Covergirl are two of them

@sammi Cover Girl is major tester on animals, yet have 1 confirmed vegan (ellen) + 1 animal activists (pink) as their spokesperson!

MAC, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown, Urban Decay, Maybelline, Revlon, Covergirl, Loreal, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Clinique, Loreal, Almay, Rimmel, NYC, Clarins, NARS, Makeup Forever, Sephora Brand, Benefit... these are just some of the major makeup brands out there that DO test on animals. I'm just listing these from memory.. I'm sure there are many more I couldn't think of. It's a very sad truth.

NARS does not test on animals. I confirmed this with the American and Canadian offices yesterday. Their parent company does, but not them specifically. NARS also has some vegan options. It's up to individual to decide if the parent company is enough for them to not buy NARS or not.
When I contacted I specifically asked if they tested during development/manufacturing, had 3rd parties do so, or buy from suppliers that test, sell/manufacture in china currently or plan to in the near future and if they had vegan products

Also even though a company does not test the final product on animals a lot of the time they will test the individual ingredients on the animals. Also most of the companies that state they don't test on animals outsource the responsibility and pay another company to do it for them so they can clearly state on their labels, WE DO NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. When in actual fact they've paid someone else to do it. Terrible!

If you plan to stop buying based on testing (I think I am) please do contact the company to let them know and be sure to put on their Facebook page. Not many people will take the time to write so they assume every letter represents the views of several hundred customers. If there is a home office in your area consider making an apt or dropping by to tell them in person. Download an article or two to leave with them.

That is a good idea to write them all a letter. I only use cruelty free products (makeup, skin care, hair stuff, everything). I never thought about telling the brands I ditched about it. I thought MUFE and Revlon were cruelty free :( that's really unfortunate. Time to send out some emails!

NARS sells their products in China.. it says on their website they do not test unless required by law aka they are selling in China which their laws require animal testing, they just aren't saying it directly. Sad but true.

I just went on the NARS website and it does say they don't test on animals at all.. but they have 5 stores in China selling their products... I hate how companies cannot be straight foward.. they don't test on animals but sell their products in China which requires animal testing..? They may say they don't test but their statements and store locations are too shadey for me to feel comfortable buying from them.

Sorry for kind of getting off topic about another company.. but nothing annoys me more then a company trying to trick their buyers with carefully worded statements and by hiding facts. I wish they were just honest.

Hi Sarah, do you have links to a website listing Nars products in China? Can't find any online and their website says they don't without the....." Unless required by law" bs. I just want to be sure before I stop buying from them.

I'm on the bus, but I can screen cap my correspondence with NARS which happened with the last 48 hours when I get home. Their parent company DOES test so that maybe a dealbreaker for some. I try to contact a company three times at three countries/divisions to ensure I'm getting universal responses.

if you go on their website and choose the store locator.. it gives you the option to search for stores in Hong Kong and when you do so, it lists 5 different stores :/
