Just take some cuticle scissors and cut it off. its just a thin layer of the nail.

Oh you can just bend it forward with the file or fingers and file on top of it and it will break from the nail.

I agree with Joanna, try a glass nail file. For example Aveniro files are great. ;)

Yeah, Aveniro files are perfect. I've recently bought myself one and I couldn't be more satisfied.
