Can hair and skin color determine a dress?

Hey guys, so I will be attending a formal pretty soon, but I honestly have no idea what color looks good on me. I know that hair and skin color compliments the dress, and I was hoping you all could help me? My hair is basically just a red-brown copper-like color, and my skin is very fair. What colors go good with features like these? Thanks in advance!

I agree with Ariana on the gold and especially like an emerald color, I also think white would good as well.
