Here's a basic outline of an eye with each part. Eye shapes differ and depending on your shape you may need to make adjustments on your shadow placement. I like to use a mac 217 or 224 (both blending brushes) then sometimes going back in with more dense brushes to build up a bit more color. Watch tutorials on people with different eye shapes to help determine your placement. Below I'll attach an image with some eye shape images. Hope this was helpful.

Have your eye open, stick the brush in, and just follow your natural crease

Yeah, just like Tiffany said. Also be sure to blend blend blend, you can apply more and more shadow gradually to ensure it blends with no harsh lines. I find the best tool to use to apply colour in the crease is a soft fluffy circular brush with natural hairs. This ensures the pigment is picked up and deposited evenly. You also want to go lightly, in circular motions, because too much pressure will cause the shadow to look un even.
