Hey ladies! I got my hair dyed dark brown with caramel ombre back in mid-January. One month later, the color was super faded, and now you can't even tell that I had my hair colored. The stylist used permanent dye, I've been using sulfate free products, and I only use heat in my hair like twice a week. This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I get my hair colored. I don't understand :(

Are you using anything with vitamin e in. I believe vitamin e fades hair.

How often do you wash your hair? washing your hair a lot causes your hair dye to fade faster. also some people's hair just doesn't hold hair dye well. mine also fades very fast but I dye mine red. I find the more often I dye it the better my hair holds the colour. I still re-dye it every 3 months. you may want to try getting a toner put in your hair which will revive the colour but it will wash out after a few weeks. you can also get veggie dye and mix some into your conditioner so when you wash your hair it adds some colour into it to keep it more vibrant. plus it's very safe on your hair.

Maybe your hair just doesn't hold dye well. Some do, some don't. I've had red hair and washed it everyday, used heat often, but refreshed it often with vegan dye.

^yes! I used to dye my hair and it would always fade so fast! And I would follow all the "rules." My hair just doesn't want to hold it!

Use cool water to wash. The colder the better but that's just not convenient during these chilly months.

Its different for eveyone. Many factors including the shampoo you use, the type of water you have, the hair dye.

Shauna, what kind of toner are you talking about? I have natural brassy tones in my hair, and no matter what color I choose, it always comes back to the brassy brown color. It's not bad, just boring! Lol. And yes, I do wash my hair every day because I work out and get sweaty :( my hair also gets really greasy and limp if I don't wash it.

Sulfates. Find a sulfate-free shampoo. That should help.

One month is normal for color to fade - but these beauties gave great tips to help keep it longer - stay away from heat as much as possible, including hot water when you wash it - and the less you wash it the less it fades.

Diana is right. I only wash mine 2 to 3x a week and that's helped a lot. Reds fade fast in general.

Have you tried a dry shampoo? I normally use baby powder on my roots cause I'm frugal.

Washing it everyday is most likely what's causing it to fade fast. don't worry I do the same thing lol. I work out a lot and my hair gets very greasy and limp looking if I don't wash it. if possible try washing it every other day. over time your hair will get less greasy. in the mean time try getting some dry shampoo. I like Aveenos. also as for the toner, I wish I could be more help. I got mine done at the salon. my hairdresser recommended it after about 6-8 weeks after getting my hair dyed. basically she put in a coloured toner. she had lots to choose from so I would choose a redish purple colour and it would instantly make my hair look very vibrant and I found eventually it started cancelling out my brassy tones. I have no experience in buying toners and doing it myself but I do colour my hair myself. definitely check with your hairdresser, plua its quite cheap, around $30-$40 and it lasts a while.

Also a clarifying shampoo once a week helps me with my greasy scalp but I use Paul Mitchell awapuhi instead of a harsher clarifying shampoo - it just gets all the gunk and dirt off your scalp and yeah like Shauna said the less you wash the less greasy it becomes over time - now my hair is only greasy when it's "washing day" which is like every 3-4 days basically.

Wow I can't imagine washing my hair only every 4 days. Lol, I'll try everyone's suggestions, thank you! Now I just need to decide what my next hair color will be :)

Dry shampoo will be your best friend :p I dye my hair too so I have to wash it less often and my hair is the same way it gets greasy really quick but dry shampoo really helps :)
