Demi-perm hair color for ashy blonde hair?

So, my hair's highlighted blonde but I'd like to make it ashier! Anybody have any tips on how to do it? I tried toner but it made the unhighlighted parts brassy...

What color based toner did you use? Purple shampoo applied to dry hair really ashes me up.

I tried Rusk's and Wella's, but both had a similar effect. I also use purple shampoo, which helps a bit, but not tooo noticeably.

It has much greater impact applied to dry hair. I leave mine on for a good 15 minutes, but longer if I want a lavander tinge. Which purple shampoo are you using? Fudge and Pravana are stellar.
