I really want purple ombre but but I have really dark black hair. I know on YouTube, Rosebud lightens her hair from black to ash blonde with Loreal's Box Dye in LB01 and this is apparently less damaging than straight up bleach.
I want to use this method to get a blonde ombre first instead of using bleach. Then, I'm planning to apply Ion's Color Brilliance Purple Semi-Permanent hair dye.
However, what is the difference between lightening with just bleach and this blonde box dye?
And if I do lighten my hair with the box dye, will the semi-permanent purple dye stick to my hair?
Sorry its so long but thanks in advance!:)

Oh and I never dyed my hair before so I have full virgin hair:)

You're going to have to bleach it. A box of blonde dye not is not going to lighten your hair at all.

I agree with Justine, especially since you have black hair then a blonde dye will do very little if anything at all.

Also since you have virgin hair it's not going to do too much damage unless you use the wrong developer, you do it too many times with no rest inbetween or you leave it on for too long. I would personally recommend going to a professional even if you just do the bleaching part because it is your first time and it's incredibly easy to mess up and you will have to do it bleach than once.

Blonde box dye has lightening agents in it. I've used it to "lighten" my hair before and it's worked. Numerous times. It does cause a lot of build up though so if you can get bleach, that would be better, both are damaging. Some people may disagree with me and that's fine, but this was a personal experience. I'm not recommending it, but I am saying that it'll get the job done.

I'd just use the garnier lightening dyes for dark hair to lift the color a bit then dye over with purple! Haha. Those lightened my hair up to three shades..well only my roots, considering they were grown out. (it HAS to be virgin hair in order for it to lift, though, so you're set.)

Keep in mind bleach isn't as bad as it's made out to be.

I agree with Shanae J. Also just go to a professional to get it bleached (because you have to bleach it) and you can add the purple yourself at home.
