I usually buy a second box and use all of it in a new bottle of conditioner.

How big is the bottle and does the dye not go bad if you don't use it in a certain time limitv.

Dye expires within the years, so you should be fine. I usually get a 32 oz of white conditioner.

I wouldn't use splay though because it's a really crappy dye and people always have problems with it. when my sister used it it just gave her streaks but when she used manic panic it covered her whole head.

The dye doesn't go bad as long as it's in a sealed container.
Splat is awful though. All the rest of direct dyes are conditioning and nice for your hair, splat is awful. It's chemically vs veggie dye made so it's drying and can sometimes react differently to everybody's hair. Plus it either stays forever, staining the hair, meaning you'd have to go darker to get rid of it, or it washes out immediately. I definitely recommend manic panic, directions, special effects, or punky colors instead. They are all veggie dyes and are made with pigment and conditioner.
As for your question, splat comes in little packets and don't have very much in them. They are very liquidity and hard to spread around the hair. But with diluting with conditioner I'd only put a few teaspoons in a full sized bottle of you want a pastel effect. If you put to much in it won't turn out pastel.

As I Reread the question I realized you're not just putting it in your conditioner to keep the lilac, you need to get the lilac first.
I don't know how long and how much your hair is, but what I do is for vibrant color (like I want it turnout exactly how the dye is) I do a 1:1 ratio of dye and conditioner. I have a lot of hair so usually it's a full thing of dye and a half bottle of conditioner. For pastel you'll want at least 5 parts conditioner to 1 part dye. Think little dots of dye, and stir until the conditioner is lilac. Test it on a paper or paper towel, and that'll show you more of a true color once it soaks in. Add more dye if it's too light and add more conditioner if it's too dark. It's really experimenting rather than a direct formula.
