My little sister wants to get highlights and she's only 12 but she's only getting them one time and she's not getting them again until she's a lot older. Good idea or bad? Thanks! (And don't say anything that'll scare her or something she really wants highlights)

That's totally fine if she wants them.
I got my first highlights when I was 12 or 13 too

I got my first highlights at nine, so I'd say go for it! Just make sure that it's done safely, as it is bleach, but if she's going to a salon she should be just fine.

As long as your parents are ok with it that's all that matters. I got highlights around the same age, but I continued to get them done but I loved it and never had any issues. I used to go get mine done at a hair salon. I'm always for getting hair done professionally until you're knowledgeable on the products and application only because I've seen so many people try to save money by doing it themselves and then have to pay more for color correction. I'm not trying to scare you at all though, it's not very difficult to do & just make sure you do your research on the products and carefully read directions. I'd love to see before & after pictures!

I was about 10-11 when I got my first highlights. They have obviously grown out since but I see nothing wrong with a twleve year old getting highlights. Hair is a way to express yourself and starting young is a good thing :)

I'd say it's okay, I got mine at eleven and kept them until I was fourteen.

I personally wouldn't unless she's totally ready for the responsibilities. any sort of dye takes some maintenance and I know at age 12, I wouldn't have been ready. I'm turning 14 in less than a month and I'm still not ready! (I probably won't highlight my hair until I have gray/white hairs because mine is naturally blonde so I have natural highlights)

I agree with Sarah, and Katelyn made a great point as well. If your sis is unsure of the exact, precise colour/shade she's looking to achieve, you may want to start out with a temporary dye first and work up to the permanent highlights, to ensure you get the best results possible (it could also be a good idea to get them professionally done, or at least receive a professional's opinion on the matter, I.e. what products and techniques you should use, etc.) Overall, assuming your parents approve and your sis can maintain her hair properly, then go for it :)
