I've put coconut oil in my hair three times, the first two times I kept it solid and rubbed it into my hands until it melted then put it in my hair. But this time, I've put it in the microwave to melt (since it was a lot quicker) then poured it all over my hair. And the coconut oil has actually gone hard while its in my hair? Is this because of microwaved it? Because it didn't happen the first two times..

Hmm maybe because of the difference in the temperatures. Like when you rub the solid coconut oil in your hand the oil is still in room temperature. But when you microwaved the oil, it went from high heat to room temperature. So after it sat in your hair for a while it hardened up. I hope that somewhat made sense?

You probably just put a lot more in it when you microwaved it, so it cooled on your strands, this happens to me sometimes, but in small pieces.

Try putting a shower cap (if you don't have one then use a plastic bag and tie it) to keep the heat inside!

Next time to melt it quicker I would put it in a bowel and then put hot water in the sink or a separate bowel and put the first bowl in the water until it melts. then you still get all the benifits of the coconut oil. it's gone hard in your hair because coconut oil returns to its solid state when it cools. If your worried you can put a shower cap or something on but when it happens to me I just leave it and it washes out fine. Also adding castor oil or olive oil can help prevent it.

I've had that happen to me in like small little flakes

Coconut oil is not meant to moisturize your hair. It's an oil, and most oils are sealants , it's just going to lock in any moisture that's already in your hair. It most likely got hard because it was no longer warm and sort of solidified in your hair like it does in the jar. I suggest using a coconut oil type hair mask thing after you apply some leave in conditioner or right after you shower to lock In the moisture from the water
