I love using my face primer! I've been using Tarte's poreless perfecting primer for a few weeks now, and it feels amazing. It really makes my foundation go on a lot smoother and look a lot more even. What I DONT think is a necessity, is a makeup setting spray. Meh.

It depends. If you're using a bb cream, a REAL bb cream, not drugstore that's basically tinted moisturizer, don't use a primer. This is because a real bb cream has skincare benefits that you don't want to block, and you'd be blocking it if you wear primer. They include primer, anyway. If you're not using a bb cream, I do suggest using primer. It isn't a *necessity* if you don't want to, though. It makes application easier and holds your makeup on longer. You can also buy primers that do certain things, like make pores invisible or control oil.

ps.I do occasionally suffer from the odd spot here and there, so will need a primer or bb cream that wont irritate it, do you know of any good ones for that?

A good primer/bb cream shouldn't hurt your skin, only help. A lot of that has to do with your skin though, you know? What works for me might not work for you. I use too faced bb cream and don't have any interest in trying other brands because I love it so much. It's really great. It's $32, I think, and I've had mine for 5 months. It's getting to the end but I use it daily, so I think it's really a great value, Primers, I use victorias secret pro primer, it's so underrated! I love it. But the silicone may or may not mess up your skin. Do you know of any ingredients like that that don't agree with you? Probably the best place to start if you're starting totally fresh would be to go to sephora and ask for samples of some primers. That way you can try different stuff out and see what you like and what you don't.

it is helpful for oily skin. It may not help much for oil control but even you have oily on face but it make the foundation doesn't move. That is what we actually want.

imo- i dont think face pimer is a necessity if you dont plan on keeping your foundation on all day. i usually dont wear primer unless i know i have a long day ahead of me and ill be wearing my makeup all day and all night. for smooth application of foundation, i make sure i use a light day moisturizer beforehand. i set my foundation with a powder and i use skindinavia setting spray because it helps regulate the skin temperature on my face in order to keep my makeup "set" in place. to keep my face fresh throughout the day, i might use an oil blotting sheet midday. after being an avid believer that face primer is a neccessary step in makeup application, i have come to learn that setting your foundation properly and using oil blotting sheets can really keep your face looking good and is a more important step in makeup application.

If foundation wears pretty well on its own without using a primer, especially if you're in the northern hemisphere right now where it's colder, I don't think it's entirely a necessity (... unless you're in Texas... 'cos.. you know... it's still 80 degrees over there sometimes lol). Since I only wear concealer under my eyes and to cover some red areas, I do like to use primer so my face has a smooth base (Yeah, sometimes I like to rhyme) so my powder that goes on top doesn't look so weird. If you're oily as fu and in a hot climate, then yeah, i'd recommend a priemr

Honestly i never use it much. When i do its for a event. And the only small difference i see is that it makes foundation a bit more flawless and last maybe an hour or 2 extra. I really dont see a huge dramatic difference.

Yes! Moisturizer and primer are a must in my opinion. They help the makeup just look better and stay. There are even primers like spackle from Laura G that leave your skin feeling cool and looking flawless, and sometimes you don't even need much makeup over it .

I'm an avid blusher and prone to breakouts; I fully recommend primer! It may seem like yet another step in the mornings but it really helps! Sometimes you can get the perfect foundation with primer built in! I have some from Ulta and it changed my life. Seriously:)

Since my focus has been on my skincare program I haven't picked up my primer in over 6 months. At one point I had stopped using liquid foundation and resorted to bb creams. Then I was introduced to a new liquid foundation that beats everything I ever tried, the need for primer is passe. I believe a combination of factors come into play when deciding if primer is needed.

I just started using a primer recently - & honestly, I wouldn't say it's 100% needed. If you have issues with oil control or the longevity of your makeup, then I suggest picking one up. It's helped fill out my pores, help my foundation go on smoother & last a tad longer.
I picked up this primer JUST to see how it'd work on my current routine. I can go without it, but it does help a tad. =]
