1) Do you need a UV light thing to dry gel nail polish, or does it just air dry like normal nail polish?
2) Do they make clear gel polish?
3) Do you need to use a base polish? If so, do they make gel base polishes?
4) How do you remove gel polish without going to the salon?

You need a light for 90% of gel polishes
Yes
They do make gel bases, but most gel kits come with "cleanser" that you put on before and after
You soak a cotton ball in acetone, place it on your nail, and wrap aluminum foil around the nail. After about 15 mins, use a gel remover tool to scrape it off (:

Kenna pretty much covered it! But you do not have to use a UV light if you are worried about damage. Most gels will cure with an LED light. I would recommend you get a starter kit, it will come with all the essentials. I highly recommend Red Carpet Manicure. It comes with remover, cleanser, prep coat, base coat, one color, top coat, cuticle oil, and of course the light itself.

Thanks ladies! So if I were to paint my nails with a gel polish and not have the light, it wouldn't dry?

Sally Hansen has a line of gel polishes. You can find them at target. There is a clear top coat and then endless colors to choose from that are in the gel line. I'm pretty positive that they also sell a mini light. But I've seen on the bottle that it says no lights needed
