I have dry skin that doesn't always feel super dry but looks flakey under my make up. I use a moisturizing cleansing balm, a gentle chemical exfoliant, and moisturizing day/ night lotions. I use a primer underneath but after an hour or so when I look in the mirror it looks dry and flakey. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Have you tried many different foundations and had the same problem? You could try a moisturising foundation and I would try a very heavy moisturiser in your case

I've been using the first aid beauty intense therapy moisturizer, and I have the problem with every foundation I use /:

Hmm strange do you still have this problem if you exfoliate (with a scrub) then moisturise then apply your foundation?

I try not to use scrub exfoliant because I've heard they do more harm then good. I use a chemical exfoliant a few times a week though.

I use them but only once to twice a week you may find it works because it should rub off your dead dry flakey skin so you shouldn't have the same problem

Your skin type is something you're born with, you can't necessarily change it but you can manage it. what's your skincare routine? Make sure you're also using a moisturizing primer and what foundations have you tried? I have dry skin and love mac studio sculpt.

I always had that problem too until I tried the Peter Thomas Roth firmX peeling gel the other day. I got it in the sephora 500pt reward and after using it ALL my dry patches were gone. Nothing else has ever done that for me (I use a clarasonic, I've used many other chemical exfoliants and scrubs). Maybe (if you can) try it out... I'm sure you could get a sample from sephora ☺️

I have this issue and CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser has helped in combo with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream & I mix Argan Oil with (I use Josie Maran which I really love but you can find cheaper ones at GNC; but I use 1-2 drops and I have the $16 bottle and it last forever...). Also I would try different foundations and definitely use a primer (What primers and foundations have you tried?). Also try different methods of application (brushes are my fav way to apply). One more thing, are you using a setting powder?

My skin care routine is: I use the body shop chamomile cleaning balm to remove all my make up, and then use the Emma hardier cleansing balm to clean my skin and exfoliate with a Muslim cloth. A couple times a week I'll use a chemical exfoliant from Paula's choice. And then I use the body shop overnight serum and origins night a mins or Clinique moisture surge. I use the Laura mercier primer in hydrating and have recently been using the naked skin foundation. Thank you all for your tips I really appreciate it!

Try Aveeno calming baby lotion. It is non comedogenic and great for dry skin. My chin tends to get dry and peeling and once I put it on at night my skin is like babies butt in the morning :) try to stay away from chemical exfoliates for a while, and check if your primer could be drying. My dermatologist recommends to exfoliate once a month, my skin is sensitive and I use a sea sponge. Works wonders :)

You should see a dermatologist, as you might have dermatitis. I had your same problem and I ended up being diagnosed with dermatitis.

I had a similar problem, around my mouth and nose was like a dessert. I Don't know how often you are using soap on your face, but I cut down to just at night to wash my makeup off and I don't wash it in the morning. Not with soap at least! I also switched to the whole Arbonne re9 line and it was very moisturizing although quite pricey.

Thanks everyone! I'll try to cut down on using my chemical exfoliant but just using it once every few days I can literally see my dry skin come off! I appreciate all of the suggestions so much! If that doesn't work I'll try some of your other suggestions

I had the same issue when I was using the Paulas choice 2% bha too often. I only use it once a week now and have seen my dry skin improve quite a bit.

Well Naked is not the best foundation for dry skin. I personally go for powder foundations (I still use concealer if needed and primer) and it looks great on my skin. I recommend Merle Norman Mineral Foundation or Tarte. As far as liquid goes for dry skin Laura Mercier Silk Cream is amazing I hear but I have not used it. I really like Clinique Even Better or the Moisture Surge Foundations, Nars Sheer Glow (broke my skin out though), and Makeup Forever HD. And for primers I loveeeee L'Oreal Magic Lumi (skinny white bottle). I have used tons of different primers for my dry skin (both drugstore and highend) and this is the one that I have loved the most and been using for about a year now. Hourglass is supposed to be amazing too but I have not used it. I have the same issue as you with the peeling skin and these products along with my skin care routine (I also use my Clarisonic) has helped with the issues. I would definitely stop doing the chemical exfoliant so much (I think once a week is plenty)...
