Hey, I have been trying to start wearing makeup but I don't know very much about it. How do I know what color I am. && should I get primer and I have horrible dark circles. Any suggestions?

You can get a color match for a foundation at Sephora, Ulta, or whatever cosmetic counter you go to.
Definitely use a primer, it will help your foundation stay on longer.
For dark circles make sure you get plenty of sleep, sleep slightly propped up, and drink plenty of water. However, if they're genetic then there's really not much you can do about it.
Makeup wise, use a yellow color corrector if your circles are purple or a peach/salmon color corrector if your circles are blue. Follow with your skin tone concealer.

This is how you know of the color is for you. Put some on the inner side of your wrist. Can you see the veins? If yeah, this is not your color. If you CANT see the vein, it is your color. Good luck!

No you should match it to your neck or chest. If you match it to your chest you'll have to blend it down your neck. You choose the one you think, but a streak going from your cheek to your neck and if it blends in seemlessly, then that's the foundation for you!!

As far as color goes, I recommend getting a color match. do take in mind that they won't always match you perfectly. if you can't get access to a cosmetic counter where they will color match you, try matching it to your face (:
getting the right formula, texture, and foundation for your skin is very important! here are a couple pointers or guidelines:
> dry skin: don't get powder foundation. trust me on this one! it will cling to dry patches like no other!! I recommend liquid because creams can often cling to my dry patches as well
> oily skin: powder foundation will be your best friend! it will keep you matte all day and won't slide off your skin!
if your skin is in between, you may have to experiment a little bit to find out which formulas work best for you!
primers are very important if you want your foundation to last all day! remember, if you get a silicone based foundation, get a silicone based primer.
for dark circles, try a color correcting concealer and on top, add a good coverage concealer (:
hope I was somewhat helpful! good luck (:

Well you know that you have the right foundation when it looks very close (similar and same) to your natural skin tone. You can get the match at any high end brands counters. Use primer to keep the foundation on for longer and it will look better. Moisturise before primer and makeup application as your skin might look flaky or dry. Use concealer to hide your under eye circles. Don't use it in thick formulas because that is good for spots. Use more watery kinda ones like maybelline fit me concealer or nars concealer. Mac Pro long wear concealer etc. :) use setting powder on. Add some blush to give your complexion a colour. :)
