Layers are important! Usually when I go skating, I wear jeans, legwarmers, a baggy knit sweater with a long sleeve shirt underneath, and a chunky scarf. Bring an extra pair of socks as well since the skates might not fit perfectly. I kind of like the cold, but bring some sort of jacket. Maybe a leather one?
This is random, but if you're renting skates, go for the hockey ones. So much more comfortable. Maybe I'm biased since I used to play 😃

I'm a figure skater and I have to tell you, DONT wear jeans! The problem is that if you fall the ice will cling to the fabric, melt, and then you'll be all wet, and cold! Wear long thick socks because usually rental skates are stiff and hurtful. I'd recommend some warm sweats, and a warm sweater. If you're going for style rather than comfort, you could add some leg warmers, a hat, and a scarf(: hope this was a little helpful(:

Layers are important, after a while you will get hot. I wear a long sleeve shirt, tights and a skater type skirt, tights, and thick socks. I like wearing mittens too.
