OK this has been a huge problem for me since I started wearing makeup, my skin is VERY oily and after like 2 hours, my foundation will like separate and get all patchy and oily and gross and I've tried blotting sheets and oil controlling powders but nothing is helping! I even use a oil controlling toner after I wash my face and stuff! Ugh I hate it so much! Do any of you guys have any suggestions??

Also I'm going to a pentatonix concert on Sunday and there is a meet and greet after that I have tickets for so I would love to not have gross foundation so any tips for concert makeup would be wonderful!

What foundation do you use?

Also, I think you should lay off your oil control products that aren't makeup, because you could be irritating your skin or drying it out, causing more oil to be produced.

I use a ton of different ones, lately I've been using loreal paris true match in porcelain w1 but I've use prob hundreds of different foundations and it's the same with all of them.

The only oil controlling ones I'm using are the clarins paris toning lotion for combination or oily skin and then cover girl oil control pressed powder in 510.

I have insanely oily skin as well, and I don't use any oil control skin care.
I use a mattifying primer, an oily skin friendly liquid foundation, and whatever setting powder is laying around- usually the elf setting powder.

Have you tried Revlon Colorstay or Rimmel Stay matte?
Feb 27, 2015
Fae G.
I've used the stay matte one but not the color stay.

Does the colorstay work really well?

I would highly recommend the Colorstay for oily skin. It's a real game changer for me. And what about the stay matte primer? I use that on my face and mix some in with my foundation and it's saved me! Sometimes I'll have minimal makeup breakup around my nose, but it's not greasy at all anymore.
My skin was terrible, but those products paired up are my HG.

The Colorstay is waaaaay better than stay matte foundation and rivals MAC's pro longwear.

I don't use any primers at the moment because I didn't know if they would make it worse or something but I wil totally try those :D thank you soooooooooooo much!

Anytime! Primer is a lifesaver. If the Rimmel stay matte primer doesn't work for you, look for another mattifying primer. HUGE difference.

Maria is right! A primer is a MUST when you have oily skin, I also have oily skin & had the same issue with foundations. You have to make sure that the primer that you use (&foundation) are silicone based & not water based or it will just slide off being the oil & water are not compatible. Make sure you use a silicone based foundation , one of my favs is the Estée Lauder double wear foundation, it's pricey but it will last me about 6-7 hours without touching up Another one would be the lancome teint idole it literally last ALL day! When I apply it in the morning around 10am it's still great but 8pm I love it!! I highly recommend botb.

Okay I have very very oily skin as well and there are a lot of things that you can do to reduce it in the long term, but first, Saturday as in like tomorrow? You only have so many options. If you are on a budget, use a translucent powder UNDER whatever foundation you are using. Goss does a great video on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyQsVyGadbY. If you don't have one, run out and grab Palladio's loose powder. It's a messy container, but the product is cheap and amazing. Make sure to use a powder brush.
If you have more money to burn, grab Makeup Forever's HD pressed powder and Urban Decay Deslick. Use the powder right after your liquid/cream products, and deslick at the end of everything. This is my current routine, and on a horribly bad looong day I might have to repowder once or twice, but nbd. Also, invest in a good mattifying foundation. makes a huge difference as well.
For long term, figure out your skincare. It's different for everyone, but I can tell you that using the kinds of toners that have drying ingredients such as alcohol are the devil and should be thrown in the trash immediately. They overdry your skin and make it produce MORE oil in response. Get yourself a gel moisturizer. Much lighter, and much less oily than even "oil-free" creamy types. On the cheap you can use aloe vera gel from the drug store (read the ingredients!! I found one with formaldehyde once). I've graduated to better products since, but doing that helped tons. Make sure whatever cleanser, soap, whatever that you use is also not super drying. If you reallllly want nice skin, look up korean skin care. When I quit overdrying my skin, it took a couple months for it to adjust, but it has been so much nicer ever since.
I feel your pain on the oily skin so I hope this helped <3

Thank you gisell! I never thought of a silicone based one :) I will look to see what mine is and Heidi it's on Sunday in 2 days so I have a bit of time but not much and wow that's weird I've never heard of powder under foundation 0.0 lol also my toner is alcohol free and it's been actually pretty amazing. I've only used it for like a month and my skin is less oily but still gross XD but thank you so much! :D.

I have oily skin too I just use Rimmel stay matte primer under my foundation then apply powder over top. if you were thinking more of a face wash for your problem I'd go with something that contains charcoal

Definitely use a Mattifying primer, powder, foundation and setting spray.

As for long term controlling I would check out origins zero oil line or shisheido pureness line. & at night time would suggest using jojoba oil, which mimics the skins sebum which will make you produce less oil

Gisell G.
Make sure it's 100% jojoba oil. I know GNC has it & I think trader joes does too.

Revlon colorstay is FANTASTIC. I've tried em all and I always go back to it, it's the only thing that doesn't make me a greasy mess.

I definitely have this issue too :( and it feel horrible because you can't do much to control it. From what I've experienced, trying to dry out your skin with excessively using toners will actually make your skin produce more oils! So you do want to wash and cleanse regularly, using alcohol free products, but also make sure you moisturize afterwards too! To help lock in that moisture and not make your skin thinks it needs to produce more. I'm using the Mary Kay cleansing line with a Certaphil moisturize (I won't rave about this product, I'm just using it until it's done). So I wash my face every night with my products and then in the morning I just cleanse my face with cold water (to get the moisturizer off or my foundation will be cakey and slick) and then I apply my primer and let it sit for a few minutes (sometimes I blow it with a cool blast from my blow dryer). A good primer is helpful with acne control, it's a good base for your foundation to stick, I'm using MakeUpForever in the green for redness coverage. Now there are 2 foundations I've experienced success with: Revlon Colour Stay (inexpensive) which was the best until I found Estée Lauder Long Wear foundation (more pricy). And it's what I swear by. Very thin but also provides full coverage. I apply my liquid foundation with a slightly dampened beauty blender which I find gives an airbrush look. To set my makeup I ALWAYS use MakeUpForever HD Setting Powder. I find this is the most efficient product for achieving a matte stayproof look. My other tips are make sure you stay hydrated! The days I get 8 glasses of water in are the days I don't need to reapply my makeup.
