Revlon Factory Visit

Today I had the chance to visit a Revlon factory here in our city with my daughter. I've visited large scale cosmetic factories in the past but not of the magnitude of what I saw today. I have a newfound respect for those on the front line. We learned that a lot of the employees were temps earning minimum wage and at any time can be let go. The pace was crazy insane on the assembly line and if an employee was dragging they would hear about it.

It was kind of disheartening to meet fellow makeup junkies who said that they can't even afford to buy the stuff that they produce and package on a daily because of the low pay. And what product they do get for free are "errors". I kinda left outta there feeling a bit disgusted. Hearing the production line manager yell at the employees in a rude manner, watching an employees facial expression upon discovering someone stole his lunch and meeting the upper management staff who seemed somewhat dissatisfied with their own jobs. I was so happy when our visit was over with. It was very much a depressing place to be and I will forever think about all the people we met who produce goodies to fulfill our lil habit.

I just wanted to share a lil taste of what I experienced today because I never really thought about the people who work the assembly line of a cosmetics company. Especially the large scale producers. I would almost call it the dark side of the cosmetics industry. While I can afford to buy cosmetics at every price point it was sad to meet a beauty who couldn't even afford what she packages up. So flippin' sad.

A lot the factory line positions are temps so at any time they can see their hours get cut or be released outright. Its common practice in cosmetic manufacturing but it was disheartening to hear about it.

This makes me feel fortunate and happy instead of what I don't have people should never get treated like that I can't afford ever single item I want but I can most thank you for sharing unfortunately it wasnt a good experience. :) may I ask how your daughter felt afterwards???

@Bre...she is very sad/upset. She has taking a few tours of some major manufacturers over the summer and saw the complete opposite in those factories. She said if she ever starts her own cosmetics lab/manufacturing company she would provide a decent living-wage and offer benefits. Along with making the employees shareholders in the company.

Wow, that's really sad.
by the way, did you hear the news about the Revlon CEO?

Yes, I did. I'm very curious to find out if this individual making the accusations has any documentation...like emails and witnesses willing to step forward and substantiate the claims. I think Revlon is going to try and settle it out of court as I can't imagine this is sitting well with the shareholders.

I work at a big company and have worked on the production line, been a line supervisor, and now work in the office for the same company. the whole place is retarded...no one gives a shit about any of the employees and nothing is EVER good enough. I have been here for going on ten years and not a thing has changed...in fact, gets worse. sexual harassment is like an every day encounter here and with no union employees don't even bother doing anything about it. there is so much gossip and drama I have never in my life seen anything like it. I will never go back to production if I don't have to.

Yep unfortunately this sounds like every production factory ever. Not just a Revlon thing.
